Authentication cost calculator (per MAU)

Enter your monthly active users (MAU) to estimate auth costs. The model is cost = base + per-MAU rate × max(0, MAU − free tier). As of June 2026: Supabase is ~$0.00325/MAU after 50,000 free, AWS Cognito ~$0.0055/MAU after 50,000 free, and Clerk ~$0.02/MAU after 10,000 free. Auth0 has the largest free tier (25,000 MAU) but sales-led paid pricing, so it is shown as "get a quote". Estimate only — verify on the vendor pricing page.

How the estimate works

For each provider: monthly cost = base fee + per-MAU rate × max(0, MAU − free tier). Within the free tier the cost is just the base fee (often $0). Auth0's paid tiers are quoted by sales and gated by feature set, so we do not invent a per-MAU number for it — request a quote. See the full authentication comparison or individual profiles for Auth0, Clerk, Cognito and Supabase.

Frequently asked questions

Which authentication provider is cheapest per MAU?

Supabase Auth has the lowest incremental rate (~$0.00325 per MAU after 50,000 free), then AWS Cognito (~$0.0055 after 50,000 free). Clerk is ~$0.02 per MAU after 10,000 free. Auth0 has the largest free tier (25,000 MAU) but its paid pricing is sales-led. Cheapest depends on your MAU count and base fees.

What is a monthly active user (MAU)?

A monthly active user is a unique user who authenticates at least once in a billing month. Auth providers bill on MAU, not total registered accounts, so dormant users usually do not count toward the bill.
